This is a 3-hour private walking tour to
marvel at the Vatican Galleries, Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's
Basilica.
You will learn about the meaning of Greek and Roman ancient art,
as well as the remarkable works of Raphael, Michelangelo and Caravaggio.
Nothing in the world compares to being lead into the ecclesiastical
state for a walking tour to discover the art, history and religion
of this, the smallest state and country in the world. The entire
complex is comprised of the Papal Apartments of the Medieval Apostolic
Palace that are decorated with frescoes created during the Renaissance.
Experiencing the newly uncovered beauty of the Sistine Chapel and
the exhibition rooms of the Apostolic Library are beyond compare
as are the
museums themselves.
The Vatican Collections were assembled over the course of many centuries
due to the artistic, dynastic and religious ambitions of the popes.
They have now grown into a museum complex of unrivalled scope and
historical significance.
Your lecturer-guide will help you to form your own opinion about
the Candelabras Gallery which was created in 1785 as a continuation
of the Pio-Clementine Museum. You will also be able to admire the
Dutch Tapestries. They are a unique series of cartoon-like creations
that were woven in Brussels by
masters of Raphael's School. You will clearly understand why the
Vatican Art Collections were, and still are, the most important
in the world. You will also see the stunning Geographical Maps and
Raphael Rooms. Then, the glorious moment will arrive when you enter
the gloriously restored
Sistine Chapel. Here you will gaze upon Michelangelo's Last Judgement
Frescos.
Then, there will be a short walk to St. Peter's Basilica to marvel
at Michelangelo's Pietà, Bernini's wonderful Baldacchino,
and the beautiful Tombs of the Popes.
Sightseeing will continue on the way back to the hotel.
